Stayer's Cup (World Hurdle)

The Stayer's Cup is a grade one National Hunt race held during the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.

From 2005 onwards the race, then sponsored by Ladbrokes, had its name changed to the World Hurdle. However from 2017 the race has a new sponsor (Sun Bet) and will return to being called the Stayer's Cup. The race was first run way back in 1912.

The Stayer's Cup, which currently takes place during the third day of Cheltenham Festival (Thursday), has twelves hurdle to be traversed and is run over a distance of around three miles.

The leading jockey in the Stayer's Cup over the years is Ruby Walsh on Big Bucks, winning on the Paul Nicholls trained and Stewart Family owned horse four consecutive times from 2009 to 2012. The winner in 2016 was Thistlecrack rode by Tom Scudamore, who romped home in impressive fashion at even money.
